Traditional Building Skills Training Scheme

The Traditional Building Skills Training Scheme is a pilot initiative, part of the Action Plans for Jobs 2013 and 2014, to enhance skillsets in built heritage conservation by making trainees or qualified construction workers more capable of carrying out conservation and restoration projects and improve their employment prospects in this growing sector of the construction industry.

The Department designed the Traditional Building Skills Training Scheme to provide capital funds to allow certain repair projects to include a skills training element. Four pilot projects were carried out in 2014, in Fingal, Galway and Kilkenny (two projects). The scheme was evaluated during 2015. The report, Traditional Building Skills Training Scheme 2014, Evaluation Report for Stakeholder Circulation, can be accessed here.
