Minister Humphreys provides update on appointments to Board of the National Library of Ireland
The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD, has announced additional appointments to the Board of the National Library of Ireland.
In addition to the Chair and ordinary members of the Board, the National Cultural Institutions Act 1997, provides the Royal Dublin Society with the right to nominate two members to the National Library of Ireland Board and, the staff of the Library have the right to nominate one member of the Board. The Minister received nominations from both the RDS and the National Library staff and has now appointed the following additional members to the board:
• Eoin McVey RDS nominee
• Susan Phillips RDS nominee
• Katherine McSharry National Library staff nominee
In late September 2015 Minister Humphreys appointed the following people as ordinary members of the Board of the National Library of Ireland:
• Ciara Breathnach
• Bob Collins
• Maeve Conrick
• James Dorgan
• Jack Keys
• Conor Kostick
• Susan Schreibman
• Jennifer Taaffe
The appointees applied for the positions through www.stateboards.ie and were recommended through the Public Appointments Service as having the requisite skills requirement for the Board of the National Library. The appointments were made under the National Cultural Institutions Act 1997 and are for a term of 5 years.
At that time the Minister also indicated her intention to appoint Mr H Paul Shovlin as Chair of the National Library of Ireland. Following Mr Shovlin’s appearance before the Joint Committee on the Enviroment, Culture and the Gaeltacht Mr Shovlin has now been formally appointed as Chair of the National Library.
