Implicated, a multimedia exhibition curated by Emily Bruton and Jill French opens in MART Gallery, Rathmines
Thursday 3rd October, 2013—Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, will be in the MART Gallery in Rathmines at 6pm this evening to open Implicated, an artist-led multimedia exhibition.
The exhibition is being organised by the Implicate Collaborative, a group of seven emerging artists, many of whom are recent MA graduates in fine art. The show proposes to investigate the ever-changing boundaries of privacy and the social rules that govern them: the seven artists ask where the lines can be drawn, tested or revealed, and the implications these boundaries have on the current cultural psyche.
Speaking in advance of the opening, Minister Deenihan said: “The theme of this exhibition is very relevant to contemporary life and the artists are asking some fascinating questions. The arts and Irish artists play a critical role in the development of an innovative and creative society.”
Implicate Collaborative was formed by NCAD graduates Jill French and Emily Bruton, and includes the Irish artists Fiona Chambers, Jennifer Cunningham and Tim Acheson as well as British artist Billy Ward and London-based Australian artist Lauren Brown. The group have received sponsorship from An Post and the Business to Arts Fund it initiative.
The exhibition, which runs from Thursday 4th October to Sunday 20th October, is being hosted by MART, a visual arts organisation based in a converted fire station on the Lower Rathmines Road.
