07/10/2011 Minister Dinny McGinley opens Daonscoil an Fhómhair

Dinny McGinley TD Minister for the Gaeltacht will  officially open Daonscoil an Fhómhair in the Óstán Ghúgán Barra, West Cork on Friday 7th October, 2011) at 9.00 pm.

Daonscoil an Fhómhair  is a week-long experience of lectures, fun and friendship through the Irish language.

Speaking at  the opening Minister McGinley welcomed the visitors to the area and to the Daonscoil. “I am very pleased to have been invited to officiate at this event. I have many very happy memories of being in this locality myself as a student . The area was as beautiful and dramatic a landscape then as it is now but perhaps I appreciate it more today.  In the same way,   our lrish language was the vernacular language in those days and today I am most pleased that that this remains unchanged despite the many challenges it has overcome.”

This event provides families who are interested in the Irish language an opportunity to converse in Irish on a variety of topics.  This year’s chosen theme is ‘Saiocht Iarthar Chorcaí and I have no doubt that much will be discussed under this banner” added Minister Mc Ginley.

This year’s programme has great variety, including a boat trip on Locha Lua, Walks, Scéal Chléire Poetry and Gaelainn Chairbre.
