12/10/2012 Placenames Orders (Co Galway, Co Leitrim and Co Longford)
Under the provisions of Part 5 of the Official Languages Act 2003, An Coimisiún Logainmneacha (the Placenames Commission) intends to advise the Minister of State in the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley, TD, to declare by order the Irish language version of the placenames of County Galway, County Leitrim and County Longford.
Before giving its advice, the Commission wishes to receive recommendations from the public regarding the draft orders, including the Irish versions. The Commission is publishing drafts of the proposed orders so that the public has an opportunity to study them.
The draft orders can be accessed on the website of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht athttps://www.chg.gov.ie/en/Irish/ThePlacenamesBranch/Consultation/ or on the website of the Placenames Database of Ireland at http://www.logainm.ie/Orduithe.aspx?uiLang=en.
The Irish versions in the draft orders are based on the work of the Placenames Branch in the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. The recommendations will be considered in advance of advice being provided to the Minister of State with regard to the placenames orders.
