13/10/2011 Minister of State, Dinny McGinley T.D., welcomes developments in regard to Áis

The Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley T.D., has welcomed developments in regard to Áis, the book distribution service of Foras na Gaeilge.

At yesterday’s (12/10/11) Language Body meeting in Armagh, the North South Ministerial Council (NSMC) noted the completion of the review of Áis. The NSMC requested that Foras na Gaeilge agree a detailed implementation plan with the Sponsor Departments  in regard to the recommendations in the review of Áis. The NSMC also requested a progress report at the next Language Body meeting in February 2012.

Minister McGinley was pleased to note the public advertisement by Foras na Gaeilge to fill two vacancies within Áis and highlighted the importance of Áis to the Irish language publishing sector.

The Minister of State stated: “I believe that ÁIS has an important role to play in Irish language book distribution for the benefit of readers, writers and publishers. I look forward to hearing about progress in regard to the implementation of the recommendations in the review of Áis at the next NSMC Language Body meeting.”
