14/11/2012 €74,738 sanctioned by Minister of State McGinley for Áras Shorcha Ní Ghuairim, Roisín na Mainiach, Carna, Co Galway.
Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley T.D., has sanctioned a grant of €74,738 for Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeigle to enable them to develop an archive in a new building owned by Údarás na Gaeltachta on the Údarás’s Industrial Estate in Roisín na Mainiach, Carna, Co Galway.
It is intended that the new Archive will comprise material of national and international importance. Included in the valuable collections to be digitised, catalogued, transmitted and detailed in the new Archive will be the entire archive of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltacht since its inception in 1972.
Announcing the grant, Minister of State McGinley said that he is delighted to sanction this grant for the Acadamh. “This is an example of the pioneering work already being carried out by the Acadamh in the area of archiving. The financial assistance that has been sanctioned will add to this storehouse of resources which is extremely valuable to the Irish language. In addition to that, the services and resources arising from the development of the Archive will increase interest in traditional culture among both the Gaeltacht and Irish-language communities.”
The Minister also added that this assistance is another good example of the Department’s and the Government’s commitment to the practical implementation in the Gaeltacht of the 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language.
