16/04/12 Donegal to benefit from €1million Tourism investment in North West Region -McGinley.
Dinny McGinley TD Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht welcomed the announcement today (Monday 16th April, 2012) by his colleague Michael Ring TD Minister of State for Tourism and Sport of a new overseas joint tourism marketing campaign to boost tourism to the West and North West of Ireland.
A sum of €1 million has been allocated through Fáilte Ireland, five local authorities (Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo and Roscommon), Tourism Ireland, the Western Development Commission and Ireland West Airport Knock, towards the Western Region Tourism Marketing Programme.
In welcoming this significant investment Minister McGinley said ‘An investment such as this underpins the hard work which the tour operators and local agencies are engaged with on a daily basis. This significant investment will provide a welcome opportunity to showcase the best of Donegal and it’s neighbouring counties to our overseas markets.”
This funding will see additional promotional activities for the West and North West rolled out in the overseas markets. Using radio, print and online advertising as well as direct mail promotions and radio competitions, the campaign aims to highlight outdoor and adventure activities in the region as well as showcasing the wealth of heritage and culture on offer. “I’m confident that beauty spots such as Sliabh Liag, and Glenveagh National Park will benefit from increased visitor numbers over the coming tourism season” added Minister McGinley.
