17/06/2013 – Minister of State McGinley announces €100,000 grant for handball and football training scheme
The Minister of State for the Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley T.D., has announced that he has sanctioned an allocation of €100,000 for the Connacht Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The grant has been approved in order to cover some of the running costs associated with a range of initiatives the Council run which support the promotion of Irish through GAA events in schools in the Connemara Gaeltacht.
Announcing the grant, the Minister of State said that he was very happy to be able to provide this assistance to the Connacht Council because of the excellent work they carry out in primary and post-primary schools in the Galway Gaeltacht. “Thanks to the valuable work the Connacht Council have been carrying out under this scheme for some years, the youth of the Gaeltacht have been given the chance to use and enrich their Irish in an entertaining sporting environment, which helps greatly in the normalisation of Irish as a language of communication among the young people,” said the Minister of State.
