18/12/2012 – Minister Deenihan announces support for conservation works at Vernon Mount House, Cork and St. Michael’s Church, Inchicore.
Jimmy Deenihan, T.D. Minister for Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, today (18 December 2012) announced support for urgent conservation works at Vernon Mount House in Frankfield, Co. Cork and at St. Michael’s Church in Inchicore, Dublin.
Vernon Mount House is a late eighteenth-century villa of significant special interest. In awarding a grant of €35,000 towards conservation works to Vernon Mount House, Minister Deenihan considered it appropriate to aid Cork County Council in protecting this very important historic property.
St. Michael’s Church in Inchicore is a former British army garrison church and is of significant architectural and historical interest. Minister Deenihan has awarded €25,000 to the parish of St. Michael’s towards urgent conservation works to the structure.
Minister Deenihan said, “Vernon Mount House and St. Michael’s Church are heritage buildings of national importance. I am delighted to be able to support urgent conservation work to these structures. Our national built heritage is a valuable asset which, as well as enriching our environment, generates considerable economic activity in tourism, construction and related industries.”
