18/12/2014 Minister Humphreys secures total of €6 million in additional funding for Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in 2015
The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD, has today (Thursday) announced that she has secured an additional €6 million in funding for her Department as part of the Revised Estimates for 2015.
The €6 million will be allocated as follows:
- €2 million to address funding challenges at the National Cultural Institutions
- €2 million in additional funding for the Arts Council
- €1 million for the peatlands restoration programme
- €1 million for Údarás na Gaeltachta
Speaking today, Minister Humphreys said:
“I am very pleased to have secured this significant additional funding for my Department in 2015. The additional €4 million for the arts will be split between the National Cultural Institutions, which have faced considerable funding challenges, and the Arts Council, which will use the additional €2 million for its commemorations programme in preparation for 2016.
“The additional €1 million being made available for peatlands, will help us to meet our legal commitments and assist in restoring our unique raised bogs. The additional €1 million being provided for Údarás na Gaeltachta will be used to support job creation and retention and will come as a welcome boost to those living in Gaeltacht areas.”
