23/07/2013 – Implementation of the 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010-2030

Implementation of the 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010-2030

The Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley, T.D., today (23 July 2013) published a progress report on the implementation of the 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010-2030 for the period 2010-2013. In addition, the relevant Departments published their implementation plans for the Strategy today on the various websites of the relevant Departments.

The Minister of State said: “My Department has the overarching responsibility for coordinating the implementation of the Strategy in cooperation with a wide range of key stakeholders. It is clear to me that this progress report and the implementation plans reveal a coherent approach to the implementation of the Strategy which will have a positive impact on the language in the long-term.”

The Minister of State also said: “The Strategy itself recognises a need for a phased approach to accomplish its various measures. In this context, I would be remiss if I did not make reference to the resource constraints within which the Strategy is being implemented. Despite this, the key stakeholders are implementing various measures under the Strategy within the resources which are currently available.”
