24/10/2014 : Minister Humphreys welcomes the start of road repairs in Killarney National Park
Friday, 24 October 2014 – Heather Humphreys TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht welcomed the start of the next phase of priority road maintenance works in Killarney National Park. €125,000 will be invested in these works this year.
Discussing the works, the Minister said, ‘I am pleased to provide funding for these important works in the National Park. The Park, which attracts over one million visitors every year, showcases the important conservation work of my Department and also contributes significantly to the tourism offering in the South West. The works will be completed this month, and the timing of the works has been planned to best suit the operational priorities for the Park with emphasis on minimising any inconvenience to visitors and other Park users.’

The section of roads to be repaired is a 3km ring-road around Muckross Abbey and taking in Muckross House, and 1.5km of road by the demesne at Mission Road. During the works, the public will be able to access the areas on foot by the paths provided; however, the areas will be closed to jarvey traffic.
