25/05/2015: Minister Humphreys pays tribute to Bill O’Herlihy

The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD, has today (Monday) paid tribute to Bill O’Herlihy and expressed her condolences to his family.

Minister Humphreys said:

“Bill was a true gentleman. Since my appointment as Minister, I have had the pleasure of working with Bill in his role as Chair of the Irish Film Board. Bill was a superb advocate for the Irish film industry, and his presence will be greatly missed. He was utterly committed to the role, which he carried out on a voluntary basis.

“He will of course be remembered by people of all ages for his decades of work in sports journalism. The World Cup would not have been the same without Bill. His good humour, his wonderful manner and his excellent broadcasting skills were unparalleled.

“I would like to express my sincere sympathies with Bill’s wife Hillary, his daughters and all of his family.”
