A further €6,756 sanctioned by Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs, Joe McHugh T.D., under the Irish-Language Assistants’ Scheme in 2014/15
Wednesday, 28th October—The Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs, Joe McHugh T.D., announced today that he has sanctioned a further grant of €6,756 for Muintearas Teo. under the Irish-Language Assistants’ Scheme for the 2015/16 school year. This grant is in addition to a previous grant of €774,486 which was sanctioned for Muintearas Teo and Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne for the 2015/16 school year.
The grant is being approved in order to support Muintearas in providing extra hours in Mín Tine Dé National School in the Donegal Gaeltacht and to employ a Language Assistant in Scoil Bhríde Mionlach and in Tigh Nan Dooley special school in An Cheathrú Rua, Co. Galway. This programme supports the promotion of Irish in Gaeltacht schools.
Announcing the grant, the Minister of State said that he is very pleased to be in a position to provide this assistance to these particular schools. “As a result of the valuable work carried out by language assistants under this scheme over the past number of years, young people in the Gaeltacht have been given the opportunity to use and enrich the Irish that they have in the classroom,” the Minister said.
