A one-off grant of €20,000 has been granted to Scoil Cheoil na Crannóige, Co. Donegal by Minister of State Kyne
Seán Kyne T.D., Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, has announced today (20 December), that he has awarded a grant of €20,000 to Scoil Cheoil na Crannóige, Na Doirí Beaga, Co. Donegal to further develop their traditional arts classes which they offer to young people of the Gaeltacht.
There has been an 85% increase in the amount of young people attending Ceol na Crannóige music classes for three years now, and more than 150 children attend these classes.
‘‘I am delighted to award this grant to Scoil Cheoil na Crannóige,’’ said Minister of State Kyne. ‘‘It is extremely important that we have as many opportunities as possible for these young children to speak their native language outside of school. Scoil Cheoil na Crannóige gives them this opportunity to speak the Irish language, as they take part in these beneficial and engaging classes.’’
This grant has been approved in accordance with the provisions in the Community and Language Support Programme under act 2.14 of the Government’s Action Plan 2018-2022 for Irish, which was launched in June 2018.
