Spending Reviews and Focused Policy Assessments
The annual Spending Review process was introduced by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform in 2017. These reviews are conducted annually, as part of a rolling three year programme, and aim to embed ongoing evaluation and analysis within all Departmental programmes. The reviews include analyses of strategy and efficiency of programmes, assessment of data gaps and enhancement of existing analyses, They are complementary to and aligned with existing Departmental evaluation activities under the Public Spending Code e.g. Focused Policy Assessments.
Focused Policy Assessments were introduced as part of the Public Spending Code in 2013. They have a more narrow scope than a Value for Money and Policy Review, and seek to answer specific issues of policy configuration and delivery.
