Other Evaluations

From time to time, the Evaluation Unit undertakes additional evaluations of individual projects and programmes, outside of the Government’s evaluation programme and the annual quality assurance process. This work is considered vital in supporting and enhancing evidence-based decision-making across the Department in line with the public spending code. Details of such evaluations may be found below:

Review of the Limerick City of Culture

In late 2015, the Evaluation Unit conducted an ex post evaluation of the Limerick City of Culture year. Limerick enjoyed the inaugural designation of National City of Culture in 2014, delivering a broad cultural programme over the course of the year. The evaluation examined the outputs of the Limerick year, having particular regard to the strategic objectives set for the year and including comparisons with similar initiatives internationally.

Review of the Heritage Council

The review, undertaken in 2015/16 analysed the activities of the Heritage Council over the period 2010 to 2014 with a view to establishing the efficiency and effectiveness with which it undertakes its work. It also made recommendations on the future operation of the Council’s annual grants programme.
