Dublin hosts major EU conference on Cultural Heritage

Minister Madigan attends first of three conferences across Europe

Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan TD, will join EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Tibor Navracsics, and President of the European Economic and Social Committee, Luca Jahier, at today’s conference on the Future of Cultural Heritage, hosted by the European Commission.

The European Commission is launching a series of Platforms: discussion meetings on the future of heritage, which will consist of innovative reflection on policy-related issues built upon the experience of the invited institutions, stakeholders, and communities worldwide.

The Dublin Platform – the first of three planned Platforms around Europe – will centre on the theme of social innovation and will discuss the revitalisation of rural communities, crowdsourcing smart solutions for societal challenges, and global peacemaking.

Minister Madigan said:

“Now more than ever, acknowledging and building on our shared European heritage – and the connections it makes between us – is important to us all.”
