€390,000 sanctioned for An Gaelacadamh, An Spidéal, by Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs, Joe McHugh T.D.
Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Joe McHugh T.D., today (8 September 2015) announced that he has sanctioned a grant of €390,000 for An Gaelacadamh, An Spidéal, for a period of 3 years – €130,000 for 2015/16, €130,000 for 2016/17 and €130,000 for 2017/18.
An Gaelacadamh employs 19 part-time teachers, including musicians, singers and dancers, who teach over 1,000 students. Announcing the grant, Minister of State McHugh said that he is pleased to be in a position to provide this grant to An Gaelacadamh to ensure that they can continue their good work in promoting music, song and dance in the Gaeltacht through Irish.
“I am pleased to announce this grant. My Department recognises the central role An Gaelacadamh has in establishing language behaviour and habits among young people in the Gaeltacht, in addition to promoting Irish culture,” the Minister of State said.
