Gaoth Dobhair Language Plan officially launched by Minister of State Kyne
The Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Seán Kyne TD, has launched the Language Plan for Gaoth Dobhair, Rann na Feirste, Anagaire and Loch an Iúir at an event in Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair today – an important step in bringing the implementation of the Language Plan in this area to the attention of the community.
Meitheal Pleanála Teanga an Iarthuaiscirt is the lead-organisation which has compiled the language plan for Gaoth Dobhair, Rann na Feirste, Anagaire and Loch an Iúir. The Department approved the Plan in September 2017 and a Language Planning Officer, Dónall Ó Cnáimhsí, and Assistant Language Planning Officer, Oisín Mac Eó, have been employed to implement the plan in collaboration with Meitheal Pleanála Teanga an Iarthuaiscirt.
Speaking at the launch of the language plan, the Minister of State said: “I would like to congratulate Meitheal Pleanála Teanga an Iarthuaiscirt – Lead Organisation of the Language Planning Area – and everyone involved in putting the language plan together for the Gaoth Dobhair, Rann na Feirste, Anagaire and Loch an Iúir areas. Along with the other plans which are already being implemented, opportunities will be provided to the community under this plan. These opportunities will play a central role in the additional efforts needed to ensure the Irish language is passed on to future generations.
