Good news for the people of Gleann Ghaoth Barra
- Minister for State Kyne approves €22,000 for Sports Field
- The development of a language and cultural Centre
The Government Chief-Whip and Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands Seán Kyne TD has announced today that a grant of up to €22,000 has been approved for community development in Gleann Ghaoth Barra:
This grant will enable the Committee to purchase goal posts, seating for teams and football-carrying nets for the pitch which is under development.
The committee’s principal aim is to provide a sports area with a football pitch – along with the appropriate facilities – at a central site in Leitir Mhic an Bhaird, County Donegal.
Not only functioning as a sports centre, it will also involve the promotion of the Irish language and the site is also intended as a language and cultural centre for young people.
“I am delighted to approve this grant to this active club,” the Minister of State Seán Kyne said. Of course, my Department is continuously working to ensure that there is integration between local organisations, the implementation of language plans and the implementation of the Policy on Gaeltacht Education 2017-2022. In that context, we seized the opportunity to secure this integration for community development in Gleann Ghaoth Barra.”
He continued by saying that he hoped this grant would help the Committee as they go about creating useful opportunities and continuity for the children to enable them to use the Irish Language outside of the education system.
This allowance is being permitted in accordance with the commitment made as part of the Community and Language Supports Programme under action 2.14, 2.21 and 2.22 of the Government’s Action Plan 2018-2022, which was launched in June 2018.
