Grant approved by Minister of State McHugh for Bere Island Projects Group Ltd in order to provide a freight service for the Bere Island in Cork

The Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Irish Language, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Joe McHugh TD, today announced that he has approved a grant for Bere Island Projects Group Ltd to pay for a heavy cargo service for Bere Island in Cork. It is a two year service between May 1 2018 and April 30 2020. The Blue Ocean Marine company will provide the service and two return journeys per week will be provided under this agreement at a cost of €80,000 per year.

The Minister of State said “I am delighted that I was able to make this announcement today. The maintenance of a sustainable offshore island community is central to the work of the Department, and it is vitally important that this type of freight service be available to the island community.”
