Kyne approves commencement of tender process for Inishbofin ferry service
Seán Kyne TD, Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands has approved the commencement of a tender process to secure a passenger ferry service for Inishbofin for the next five years.
Subject to receipt and evaluation of tenders, the new contract will come into effect on 1st January 2020 and provide a passenger ferry service between Inishbofin and Cleggan in Conamara. It is envisaged that the contract will provide for two return sailings daily for the community.
Commented Minister Kyne: “I am delighted to approve the commencement of this tender process which will be administered by the Islands Section of the Department of Culture, Heritage and Gaeltacht.
“As part of the process, my department, in conjunction with the Inishbofin Development Company, consulted with the community to ensure that the tender process will deliver a scheduled and reliable ferry service for local people and visitors alike.
Connectivity is essential for the sustainability and prosperity of all island communities and this process will provide certainty for Inishbofin over the next five years” the Minister added.
