Minister Humphreys increases funding for traditional arts and cultural organisations in 2017
The Minister for Arts, Heritage Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys TD, has today announced increases in funding for two traditional arts organisations and a range of cultural bodies supported by her Department in 2017.
Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann will receive €1.5 million in 2017 (an increase of €52,000) and Siamsa Tire (home of the National Folk Theatre of Ireland) have been allocated funding of €310,000 (an increase of €10,000).
In addition, a number of cultural museums and archives will share in a funding boost of €100,000. This includes an additional 6% to the Hunt Museum Limerick, an increase of 7% to the Irish Architectural Archive and an extra 10% in funding for the National Print Museum.
Speaking today Minister Humphreys said:
“Thanks to the continued job growth and economic recovery, I am in a position to provide increases in funding across a range of arts and cultural organisation for 2017. I am delighted to boost support to cultural organisations which champion, foster and protect traditional arts and music across the island of Ireland and beyond, such as Comhaltas and Siamsa Tire.
“I am also providing small boosts in funding to a range of other cultural museums and archives supported by Department. For most of these organisations, it is the first time they will have received an increase in 8 years.
“This follows the increases in funding which I announced for our National Cultural Institutions, and a range of other bodies under my Department’s remit, including the Arts Council and the Irish Film Board and the Heritage Council. Investing in arts and culture is hugely beneficial for society, and has a positive impact on communities nationwide.”
