Minister Madigan has congratulated 2018 IFTA Film & Drama Awards (IFTAs)

Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Josepha Madigan, T.D. has congratulated all winners of tonight’s 2018 IFTA Film & Drama Awards (IFTAs).

The Irish Academy Awards celebrate and honour the very best in Film, Television Drama, Feature Documentary, Live Action Short and Animation.

Speaking this evening Minister Madigan said “The IFTA ceremony is an excellent vehicle for highlighting the diversity and talent of our filmmaking community. It is firmly established as the platform for celebrating all that is good about Irish television and cinema”

Presenting the award for ‘Best Feature Film’ Minister Madigan said “There can be no doubt that the Irish Film and Drama sector is going from strength to strength. We have shown that we can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the world and be judged only on the high quality of our output.”

The Minister also extended her congratulations to Gabriel Byrne who was presented with the prestigious Irish Academy’s – Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding achievement across both film and television

The IFTA Film & Drama Awards, hosted by Deirdre O’Kane, were held at the Round Room of the Mansion House, Dublin tonight and will be broadcast on RTÉ One television on Saturday at 10.45pm.
