Minister Madigan welcomes Maureen Kennelly’s appointment as the new Director of the Arts Council

Josepha Madigan TD, Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has today, March 6th 2020, welcomed the appointment of Ms. Maureen Kennelly as the new Director of the Arts Council.  The appointment follows a transparent competitive recruitment process to fill the position previously held by Orlaith McBride.

A native of Ballylongford in Co. Kerry, Maureen is currently Director of Poetry Ireland.

Commenting on the appointment, Minister Madigan said:

“I am delighted that someone of such an impressive calibre with such a wide range of experience at a high level will be instrumental in leading the Arts Council over the next number of years.

As an advocate for the Arts, I know that Maureen will build on the fantastic legacy of work from her predecessor Orlaith McBride and be a true champion for the Arts. She takes up the post at a very exciting time for the Arts Council as an organisation and the arts and culture areas as a whole”
