Minister Martin and Minister of State Chambers announce funding for small capital works on a number of offshore islands.

Catherine Martin, T.D. Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht agus Jack Chambers T.D., Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Gaeltacht and Sport have announced funding of nearly €700,000 to undertake improvement works on a range of offshore islands.  Funding has been approved for Cork, Mayo and Donegal County Councils as follows:


Cork County Council €279,054
Mayo County Council €341,250
Donegal County Council €79,500


Each of the County Councils provide co-funding for these works.

The Department expects to announce funding for other islands shortly.

Projects allocated funding in this round include those on Whiddy, Oileán Chléire and Bere Island in Cork, Clare Island, Inisturk, Cleggan, Roonagh Pier and the old pier at Roonagh in Mayo and Island Roy Árainn Mhór in County Donegal.

The Ministers welcomed this funding. “The announcement of this round of small capital works on the islands demonstrates the Government’s commitment to providing and developing the infrastructural supports needed by these communities,” Minister Martin said.

Minister of Sate Chambers added “Government has provided additional money for these small capital works in the recent Stimulus package. Additional funding will be made available to complete works on other islands shortly.”
