Minister of State McHugh sanctions an operational grant of €224,824 for Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne (OCD) for 2017/2018
Joe McHugh T.D., Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, announced today that he has sanctioned an operational grant of up to €224,824 for Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne for the 2017/18 school year to support them in running an activity programme on the Irish language in the West Kerry language planning area.
The Minister of State said: “Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne have been doing valuable work for many years, with the annual assistance of my Department, to preserve and foster the Irish Language as a community and household language.
“In sanctioning this significant allowance, I hope that Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne will be able to make good use of it. In addition to this particular investment another allowance will also be available to support the implementation of the area’s language plan. When all of this investment is taken together, let alone the capital assistance which has been put to good use in the area, there is no doubt that my Department is serious about supporting Corca Dhuibhne.”
This grant is being sanctioned under the Gaeltacht action area of the 20-Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010-2030.
