Minister of State Seán Kyne approves funding to provide a Helicopter Service for Tory Island in 2019/20 under an Agreement with the Health Service Executive

The Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Seán Kyne TD, has announced that he has approved a grant of €189,212  to deliver a weekly helicopter service for Tory Island for 2019/2020.  Under the agreement between his Department and the Health Service Executive a helicopter service between An Fál Carrach and Toraigh will be co-funded from the 11th of October 2019 to the 10th of April 2020. The frequency of flights increased in 2016 from two per month to one per week and in 2018, the contract period was extended. This extended service is to continue this year.

Minister of State Kyne has said he is very pleased to make this announcement. “I’m pleased that the Department was able to help again this year to provide this essential aer service to the island community.”

“Following consultation with the island co-operative, Comharchumann Thoraí, some 150 flights will take place this winter. Investment of this nature demonstrates the Government’s commitment to supporting island communities.”
