Minister of State Seán Kyne welcomes funding for Gaeltacht projects under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund
Seán Kyne T.D., Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Irish language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands has greatly welcomed last Friday’s(23 November) announcement from Taoiseach Leo Varadkar T.D. and the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring T.D., that there will be capital funding of €2.8m made available for projects under Údarás na Gaeltachta in the Donegal, Mayo and Galway Gaeltacht areas.
The funding permitted by the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund for these three successful projects under Údarás na Gaeltachta is outlined below.
- €1.5m permitted for the development of the undeveloped upper storey of gteic @ Gaoth Dobhair at Gaoth Dobhair Business Park and for the provision of 1,725 sq.m of new workspace/ offices;
- €548k for the development of gteic @ An Spidéal Digital Hub and Innovation Centre in Conamara
- €795k for the development of 8 Centres of Excellence /Digital Hubs/Innovation Centres in the Mayo Gaeltacht including Belmullet, Aghleam, Gaoth Sáile, Achill and Toormakeady;
As he welcomed this funding, the Minister of State said ‘‘I’m certain that this funding will help the Údarás to keep jobs in its client-companies in the Gaeltacht, and to entice further investments to the Gaeltacht areas. It’s no harm to say that this is an extra provision for Údarás na Gaeltachta on top of the increased provision of €8.5m provided for this organisation for 2019.’’
