New LEADER selection process launched for East Galway
The Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, today launched a new selection process for the delivery of €7.7 million in LEADER funding in East Galway. This follows on from the selection of Forum Connemara as the Local Action Group for the delivery of €4.5 million LEADER funding in West Galway (the Connemara municipal district).
The funding, which will support the delivery of LEADER to rural areas of Galway not already covered by the programme, will focus on economic development, generating employment and supporting rural communities. Potential Local Action Groups will be required to develop a strategy to determine how this funding should be delivered in East Galway which comprises all rural areas outside of the Connemara municipal district. A two stage selection process will seek to secure a high quality Local Development Strategy that will deliver real added value and contribute to the Government’s overall plan for rural Ireland.
The first stage, which is being launched today, is an open call for expressions of interest from any group that can show broad local and community participation, and wishes to be considered as a Local Action Group for the purposes of the delivery of LEADER interventions in East Galway. Those successful at stage one will then be invited to develop a full Local development strategy for the region.
