Over €22,000 approved by Minister of State Kyne to undertake preliminary work on a Helipad on Inishturk
The Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands Seán Kyne T.D. has today indicated his approval of a grant of €22,500 to Mayo County Council in order to select a site, request planning and undergo design with a view to developing a helipad on Inishturk off the Mayo coast.
Minister of State Kyne has said he is very pleased to make this announcement. “I am pleased that my Department is in a position to contribute to the development of a helipad on Inishturk which has been in the pipeline for a long time. Having selected a site for the development earlier this year, it was discovered at the last minute that the site was unsuitable, which was of course a disappointment to myself and to the community on the island. Once it is built, the helipad will be an important asset to the Irish Coast Guard, the Minister of State noted, “and this announcement follows on from my recent decision to establish an Interdepartmental Committee on Island Development.”
