South Donegal Language Plan approved by Minister of State Kyne
Minister of State with Special Responsibility for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands and Government Chief Whip, Seán Kyne has today 26 April 2019 announced that a Language Plan for the Area of South Donegal has been approved by him in accordance with the language planning process. He also announced that an annual allowance of up to €100,000 will be made available under the process to support the implementation of the plan and to enable Lár Chomhairle Paróiste Ghleann Cholm Cille Teo, who compiled the plan, to employ a Language Planning Officer.
The Minister of State said: “With the approval of the language plan and funding of up to €100,000 for the language planning area of South Donegal, Lár Chomhairle Paróiste Ghleann Cholm Cille, Lead Organisation for the Language Planning Area, can commence implementation of the community based plan immediately. Moreover, it gives it the opportunity to influence more than ever the position of the Irish language in their area. I congratulate the lead organisation on its work over the years in order to have the plan approved. It goes without saying that myself and officers within the Department and Údarás na Gaeltachta look forward to working with the lead organisation and supporting the implementation of the language plan for South Donegal in the coming years.
